Ive just returned from Norway. I’ve been before but last trip was the winter time. This time it was the “midnight sun” fabulous. I cruised on a Fred Olsen ship which is small in comparison to some huge cruise lines. The advantage is that the ship can manoeuvre into the smallest fjords and nearly touch the sides!

I had a great time teaching a variety of passengers a variety of crafts. I will show you what we made over the next few  blogs. As a starter we used silk ties to make lovely makeup purses. This was a very popular and simple project.

Cruise craft #1

Standard

Well dear friends I am off on another cruise teaching crafts to fellow cruisers. OK I don’t go until January but I am busy preparing. Quite a lot of work goes into the prep beforehand. This includes working out how many classes will be required, what to make and what we hope will interest any crafters from beginners to experts.

This next cruise I am planning on using some of my mountainous stash of vintage linens to make up cycled/re purposed items. This project sits nicely with my recent spell of clearing out, making space and de cluttering. I really do have an almost limitless stash of vintage linens but can’t bear just to throw it away. This way someone else will take pleasure from some of it and ( hopefully) make something useful and definitely have fun

I have spent the past week thinking about a one day project, what to do and how to do it. The prototype is now done so one project down, quite a few more to go. This project is a hanging heart made from vintage linens. It is gently perfumed with Lavender and embellished with lace, buttons and ribbons. It is aimed at taking one hour to make although we will find more time on the day.

Lavender Heart

The cruise line that we are going on is Fred Olsen and this voyage goes to Norway in early January. Fred Olsen provide wonderful cruises and look after their guest lecturers (aka craft instructors!) very well

I will update you as and when I have sorted more projects so watch this space.

Gold Work Workshop

Standard

Today I had arranged a Gold Work workshop in our village hall. Gold Work is a form of specialised embroidery using gold threads, wires and beads. It is a beautiful craft requiring patience, imagination, dexterity and lots of tuition!  Our terrific tutors were Sue and Sarah from http://www.golden-hinde.co.uk. Fifteen keen, but certainly not experienced ladies, enjoyed the fun whilst trying to create a potential heirloom!

We all ate lots of cake and drank endless tea (thanks to my sister) and ended the day with a part finished small project. Mine was a heart in three types of gold work stitches proving to be a really pretty practice piece. This will NOT join my heap of unfinished objects I promise. I will put it on my blog when complete!ImageOur tutors Sue and Sarah showing our group how to do Goldwork with endless patience and humour.ImageImageImageTwo beautiful Goldwork pieces completed and framed. These are just a little more advanced than my practice piece!
