Hello from Valletta Malta. The best thing about cruising is that it feels like a “day out” in different countries. You get more or less a day to explore before moving on to the next destination. This presents the idea if you want to return for a longer holiday. I like 🇲🇹 Malta.
Of course I am teaching crafts on board and really having a ball with a great group of ladies . I will tell you more about the crafts in another blog.
In the meantime I’m currently enjoying my second coffee stop in this lovely city. I’m in the local Marks and Spencer’s as I can guarantee free WIFI nice toilets and good coffee!
Malta is quite rightly proud of its history. It is immediately obvious how it’s walls protected the people, troops and refugees during WW2. It is also a moment to reflect on those who lost their lives for us.
Now it feels a happy, sunny 😎 free place to live
Hello from Ibiza. My crafty cruise has paused in Ibiza to explore and enjoy. I hitched a lift on the shuttle bus into Ibiza Town and wandered around the old walled town. A lovely place with many shops but a serious lack of crafty emporiums. There was an excess of white lacy garments that fit all!
I walked up to the old town and wandered along the walls. The views were lovely even through the fine rain.
This is a very sad view of a beach by Ibiza town. It appears that garbage, even a kitchen sink have been thrown over the cliff! Come on Ibiza clean your beach
Beautiful stone walls
Colours of Spain
Don’t forget that this is a working holiday so I will tell you about the craft classes on another day .
My crafty cruise takes me to Cadiz today. The actual crafts are usually taught when we are at sea so today there is time to explore. The Cathedral is lovely and the city square provides plenty of coffee opportunities
It’s a special day today for Fred Olsen Cruises as all four of their ships are docked together to celebrate 170 years of the company.
For the businesses of Cadiz “their boat has truly come in”In fact three boats each spilling around 1000 people into the shops and restaurants
Well the sun has shone, the entertainment has entertained and I’m about to get ready for the sail away party. All three cruise ships will sail out of Cadiz in convoy. It’s then Ibiza here we come.
Cruise going really well and everyone enjoying craft classes. Phew! Two classes done and about 6 to go. It’s always flexible because we are influenced by the weather ( can’t get into port) demand ( people just NEED) a knitting fix! Instead of knitting just substitute printing sewing crochet……..
It is also essential to sample the local cuisine, especially the Portuguese tarts. Diet ? What diet?
Hi Guys where are you crafting today? I’m knitting on a coach on my way to Dover.
Yes I’m off on Another crafty cruise. I am so lucky to be seeing the World from a cruise ship. Sure I have to work but it’s such a pleasure when you love what you do . The greatest pleasure of all is “coaching ” someone and sharing the crafty knowledge.
This cruise is Island hopping from Dover UK through the Suez Canal and home from Jordan. The great promise at the end is a trip to Petra. I can’t wait but do have some work to do before then.
This explains why I’ve not been blogging recently as in the five weeks since my last cruise I’ve been prepping the crafts for this cruise! It’s so nice to sit on the transfer coach and knit my own project!!
When running a craft class on board a cruise ship it is important that I present a variety of crafts. One Craft that is always popular is block printing using mainly hand carved wooden blocks. I provide pre made linen tote bags and tea towels to work with. It’s a great hour or so whilst cruising the Norwegian Fjords.
Block printing appeals to all ages and abilities. I provide the paint and the equipment and, let’s face it, we all enjoy playing with paint. It must appeal to our inner child! Many of the visitors to my classes are competent crafts people so enjoy going the extra step. To encourage the individuality I also provide embroidery kits and buttons and beads for embelishment. The results are usually a delight and make a great cruise souvenir.
Phew! It’s been so hot! Just like summers used to be! Not really, I didn’t used to be a World traveller! I’ve recently returned fro a couple of cruises where I teach crafts on board. A great job!
Ive just returned from Norway. I’ve been before but last trip was the winter time. This time it was the “midnight sun” fabulous. I cruised on a Fred Olsen ship which is small in comparison to some huge cruise lines. The advantage is that the ship can manoeuvre into the smallest fjords and nearly touch the sides!
I had a great time teaching a variety of passengers a variety of crafts. I will show you what we made over the next few blogs. As a starter we used silk ties to make lovely makeup purses. This was a very popular and simple project.
We took the local bus from Mayrhofen toHintertux. Hintertux is a local ski mountain where you can ski 365 days of the year. We were not skiing but walking. The lift to the top is in three stages but we hoped off after the first stage and walked down into the town. Now I like walking down! We started off in full cloud but walked down into hot sunshine ☀️
The walks are extremely well signposted so route finding is easy. We crossed bridges, admired the spring flowers and dodged cows. The cows all wear typical cow bells which you can hear from way off ( the purpose of the bells I suppose)
Apparently the better the milker the cow is the bigger the bell. Now I think that this is extremely mean. Not only does the poor girl have to carry a great big udder but a great big bell as well!
Hubs and I are having a cheeky week in Mayrhofen Austria. We have been multiple times but are still thrilled with the beautiful mountains, valleys and waterfalls. The mountain tops are easily accessible due to the chair lifts
When you reach the end of the lifts the restaurants are fabulous putting our efforts on Snowdon to shame. All the many paths are well labelled with numbers making walking much easier. Your not SUPPOSED to get lost👣
We generally buy a six day mountain pass which enables lift use free buses and train. Not bad value.
Great time out as I hardly ever go away ha ha😎
