Cruise Crafts Silk Ties

Standard

Hi lovely readers! I have talked a lot about the destinations on my recent, wonderful cruise but not about the crafts! The very reason for me being on the cruise in the first place is that I was actually teaching crafts! And what a great time we had!

One of the very popular crafts that we made was silk purses. We used silk ties to make these simple colourful make up pouches. I did start buying ties from charity shops but was not very happy. Silk ties in charity shops are quite expensive. They are often not too clean! They do not wash very well ( my Mother was right) I ended up buying lots of silk ties from China. These are sold as wedding ties and are colourful, good quality and nice to work with.

The purses are quite simple to make and the only other requirement is a zip. If you place the tie longways and use the zip as a measure, you can wind the tie round and round until the length is used. Pin and then slip stitch as you go. Slip stitch the base and insert the zip. Job done!

These are a small collection of the finished purses that were in our final Exhibition of Crafts. Didn’t we do well?

I’m ┬áso sorry not to have found the time to blog for a few weeks but I have been soooo busy. A poor excuse I know!

We have been on a road trip in Damnvan1 to the Lake District, Cumbria. It was cold, sunny, windy, clear, crisp and fun. We walked, talked, drank wine, ate too much and had fun! We struggled to take down our pop up tent ( Where Benji dog sleeps) and I’m sorry I didn’t film our hilarious efforts for YouTube. We travelled to the Yorkshire Dales which were awash with Bluebells, we had picnics, and scoured charity shops, we watched old DVDs and had fun.

Vintage China Cake Plate

Vintage China Cake Plate

Day seven and eight of my personal earring challenge! It’s going really well. All my jewellery is slowly getting sorted. Earrings paired, necklaces un knotted, beads repaired and Jewels stashed safely. (Not many/any jewels)
Today I dropped the two pairs of earrings onto a vintage china cake plate. Now use your imagination there could be a delicious coffee and walnut sandwich cake sitting on the plate. However it wouldn’t last long. I bought the cake plate from a charity shop in Lewis when on holiday with a friend about three years ago. I didn’t pay a lot for it but it has joined my vintage treasures. It is fine china and has fluted edges with no damage. There is a delicate pattern of roses which look lovely covered with coffee and walnut cake crumbs.
