Criccieth Festival

Standard

Criccieth Castle (Welsh: Castell Cricieth) is a native Welsh castle situated on the headland between two beaches in Criccieth, Gwynedd, in North Wales, on a rocky peninsula overlooking Tremadog Bay. It was built by Llywelyn the Great of the kingdom of Gwynedd but it was heavily modified following its capture by English forces of Edward I in the late 13th century.

Thanks to Wikipedia for the information

Had a great couple of days attending two workshops at the Gwyl Criccieth Festival. The first was a stitching workshop made even better because my Sis came. We made beautiful lapel pins inspired by Cow Parsley. I took the pink one home to finish ( which, unusually, I did!) Then I made another. I will definitely make more in the future as they are a great small project to take away with me.

Many thanks to Kitty and Flo

Crafts and Caravan

Standard

I recently had a lovely weekend with my Sister in my caravan in Criccieth. The weather was not good but we snuggled down with the heating and crafted all weekend.

We did have one break from crafting when we went to a bonfire on the beach. It was good fun and interesting to watch the fire by the waves. There was a lot of people there but everyone was happy and having fun.

During the weekend I put together some quilt kits for a craft fair next week. Sis made some tapestry cases, I knit, the sewing machine misbehaved, and we had fun.

Crafts on Board

Standard

Many of you are aware that I occasionally work on cruise ships teaching crafts. I average about three “craft” cruises a year. It is not as simple as it sounds as an awful lot of work goes into the preparation for the cruises both financially and time wise. Trying to remain current and popular with the crafts I teach is a challenge. Deciding which crafts to offer is a major consideration and knowing how to do them is handy!!

This involves watching which crafts are fashionable or even revisiting vintage crafts for ideas. Which brings me to…

IMG_0519Do you remember French Knitting? We used a knitting dolly. This seemed like a possibility for a cruise so I ordered 40 Knitting dollys. (see what I mean about expense?) Then I needed to organise the yarn – more cost! Most importantly I needed to remember how to use it. Guess what? I took the kit on a holiday cruise! I practiced and practiced.

IMG_0607I also thought about Textile printing which I’ve done before. I already have the printing blocks so I bought 30 Textile tote bags and tea towels – more expense! I took a tote bag on the cruise with me so that I could embellish it to demonstrate the possibilities.

IMG_0518On this last cruise Sis also took along a craft. She was teaching herself needle felting. Now there’s an idea!!

Cruise News Two

On the recent cruise with my Sis we explored a few of the Caribbean Islands  including Barbados, St Lucia and St KittsimageWe visited a Batik workshop where we saw the Batik process in action followed by the inevitable shopping opportunities IMG_0453IMG_0447don’t you just love the colours?IMG_0487l tasted quite a few Rum punches including this one in a coconut on the beach. We paddled and swam in the beautiful turquoise sea and found shells on the beach.

Return from Travels.

Standard

Well dear Friend as many of you know I live to travel, and travel I do! I have just returned from a cruise with my Sister. We flew to Barbados and cruised some of the Caribbean and then across the Atlantic to Madeira. After various stops in Spain we finally flew home from Malaga.

Six days at sea across the Atlantic is pretty hard core cruising but we coped between extended meals, sun bathing and relaxing in the beauty spa! It was great to be with Sis sharing childhood memories, giggling and reading each other’s books. Happy days.

Sis did get sun burned legs that required some attention!

We visited food markets in Madeira, but didn’t buy any chillies 🌶 or 🌿 herbs

We found an unusual post box!

Never Ever Again!

Standard

It seemed like a good idea at the time. I would buy some fabric and make a throw for the seats in my caravan. You know the score make it more up to date, more on trend, more now! I found some light grey fabric at Abakhan and set to work. Change the plan! Throws didn’t work. They slipped, rucked and creased. So more fitted covers were required. One whole weekend and disaster not enough fabric. Back to Abakhan I went and found a toning dark grey. Another weekend and more cutting and stitching. In the middle of all this I burned my fingers, luckily on my left hand. I certainly couldn’t have managed without my sister whose input and advise was much appreciated. We continued to stitch cut and tuck. I hemmed, drew round plates ( for arm covers) and discovered upholstery pins. Result- not bad. Maybe more modern, certainly protecting the upholstery, and I learned a lot. Most importantly never ever to do this again!

Giddy

Standard

I’ve just got to tell you that I am giddy with excitement! Why? I’m on the brink, nay cusp of finishing not one but TWO works in progress! How exciting is that? Such a rare event.

Im savouring the moment so will show you pics when work complete! I have put myself under pressure ( I work better under pressure)  as I am off to a craft show with Sis on Friday. I promised myself that I wouldn’t buy/start any more project until I had finished at least two. Mind you I don’t NEED to buy more as I still have multiple PHDs (projects half done) filling up my tiny cottage. But you know the score…

Fayre or Fair?

Standard

Yesterday was our annual village Christmas Fayre. A fun, festive event putting everyone in the Christmas spirit.

IMG_1410I had a stall selling my perfumed candles in China cups, printed bags and knitting. My little Sister helped and it was good to catch up with friends. As usual I probably spent more money than I made but it is great to meet fellow artisans and network. Christmas is heading this way fast so brace yourselves!

No WIFI

Standard

No WIFI and that’s my excuse! Oh and I’ve been trying to focus-well sort of! I have been away quite a lot. One week looking after little Sis whilst she recovered from first episode of chemo and my birthday celebration in the Lake District. No don’t ask how old – just old enough to know better!

The week with Sis was in her caravan in Snowdonia and we actually had a great week! Fantastically she wasn’t too sick just uber tired. We travelled around each day visiting beautiful tourist hotspots and treated ourselves to lunch out every day and in search of crafty bargains and ideas!

IMG_1372

I am delighted to confirm that I was craft focused and completed a patchwork quilt that I must have started four or more years ago. I had no binding so I made up my own by joining on the bias, left over pieces of the quilt topper. I am really pleased with the result

IMG_1375

I also sorted out my current knitting. I had made it unnecessarily complicated. I had never before knitted an ” all in one”cardigan. I have almost made it to the neck so pictures will follow ( eventually)

Beads and Stuff

Standard

My Sis gave me a large bag of beads that she had collected. She thought (hopefully) quite rightly that they would make a good cruise project.

IMG_1307I have sorted them all out and now need a project……

All ideas welcome. They are heavy and as you can see quite lovely. All I need to know is what to make with them…….

Thanks Sis! Thinking of you. Go girl go!
