Vintage Compacts

Standard

IMG_1316IMG_1317I wasn’t going to buy anymore vintage powder compacts! Ha ha! I couldn’t resist this one that was for sale at this weekends show. I only payed £3 and it’s so pretty.  These days I’m much more decerning over what I buy.  My rules for collecting these gorgeous compacts are:

1) price. I check out on the internet what they are worth and how much I’m prepared to pay.

2) Make or manufacturer. I only buy “Stratton” compacts these days.

3) Condition. Many are unused and have never seen powder in their lives.

4) I do limit the design to floral these days. ( I do have others but only buy if exceptionally nice)

So, I have built up a small collection. They are ideal to collect as they are small, pretty and increasing in price.

Serendipity

Serendipity happens to be my favourite word in the English dictionary. Well yesterday I had a truly serendipitous moment! (If there is such a word)🍀

I was visiting a great craft emporium called “Lady Heyes” found at http://www.ladyheyes.co.uk and as usual chatting away. I had bought a powder compact to add to my growing collection, and my friend asked me what had attracted me to these Stratton powder compacts in the first place? We were giggling as I explained that my first real boyfriend had bought me a beautiful red one for my seventeenth birthday. Now that is more than a couple of years ago and it had been broken and lost during one of my multiple house moves.

At this point we both turned to look into a glass display cabinet and there was my vintage red Stratton compact! Needless to say I had to buy the second (and best) compact of the day. Now THAT is serendipity🌹
