Birthday Girl

Standard

Lovely step Grandaughter turned nine this weekend. As a treat we all went out in Damnvan1 for a birthday picnic by the sea. We were very fortunate as the rain stopped and the sun shone as we drove up to the coast. Great fun was had with a birthday banner over the windscreen, balloons and party poppers. We finished our buffet picnic party with chocolate cake sporting nine candles. The grand finale was a Knickerbocker Glory at a local ice cream parlour. Predictably she couldn’t eat much of it but apparently I’m told that a Knickerbocker Glory is compulsory to celebrate turning nine whole years old.

Muddling along on the craft front at the moment as I’ve been trying to finish my new craft room. I’ve never before decorated a whole room on my own but I’m delighted with the results. The desk arrives tomorrow so nearly there.

And I Thought that No-one Would Come!

Standard

We continue to cruise North along the gorgeous  coast of Norway on Fred Olsen’s ship MS Balmoral. We glide along past the colourless but awesome scenery. Colourless because the coast and mountains are shrouded in mist and mystery, but with glimpses of coastal villages and amazingly long road bridges.

The classes on the ship are really well attended, with over thirty ladies ( and a couple of random husbands) attending each session. Today we were doing ” decoupage” which proved incredibly popular. This is good as I don’t now have to carry home lots of wooden boxes. We are using a wide choice of papers including old maps and a vintage Whinnie the Pooh book. The glue used is a glossy glue which means that you don’t need to varnish the end product. It’s a great thrill to see the variety of creations that emerge from the same raw materials.

And to think that I thought no-one would come!

Early Noel

Standard

Last weekend I went away with my girlfriends for our annual Christmas celebration. We generally enjoy a Christmas Eve Buffet on the Friday evening, Christmas Day on the Saturday followed by a Boxing Day Sunday. We have a secret Santa AND a stocking of goodies. How lucky are we? This year we had a beautiful penthouse apartment in Alnmouth Northumberland and we decorated it with our festive stockings and a Christmas tree.

We had great views of the beach and estuary. On “Christmas” day we opened our presents and watched Christmas movies🌲We put the turkey in the oven and went for a long walk along the beach. When we returned the turkey smelled lovely so we watched another Christmas movie. Sometime later I went to put the roast potatoes into the oven and WOAH ! oven cold! Turkey half cooked! Oven broken! Disaster 🌲

Not the turkey!

After a search on line we realised no fast food outlet would deliver pizza etc. We’d all had a drink so driving wasn’t an option and Christmas table already decorated! Finally we walked into the small village of Almouth and one of the only eateries did take out fish and chips. So that was our Christmas dinner complete with Christmas crackers, paper hats and a borrowed bottle of vinegar from the fish restaurant. Merry Yuletide!

A Passion for Travel

Standard

Travel is my passion. Whether it is global cruising, trekking The Himalaya or Sunday walking in Snowdonia. Travel stretches the mind, excites the imagination and feeds the memory banks.

img_0809

Damnvan1 is a great way to travel around the UK. We have travelled coast to coast and Lands End to John OGroats. We have manoeuvred over (very) narrow bridges up steep hills, onto ferries and, best of all, along our beautiful coastline.

We have great plans to travel Globally and continue in Damnvan1 to forests, valleys, mountains and coast. So BRING IT ON!

Campervan to bed

Standard

We have finally put Damnvan to bed after spending seventy nights away this Summer. It has been so good.

We visited Devon and Cornwall

We walked up mountains

And along coastsimage

We flew kites and paddled in the sea. There was the Lovely Lake District, interesting Buxton and fabulous Yarndale. All in all a great summer. As the nights get longer and the days colder we tuck Damnvan up for the Winter and make plans for next year. Let’s hope that we can beat the seventy night record!

Secrets, Stash and Supplies!

Standard

Today I visited a local craft emporium called Abakhan http://www.abakhan.co.uk close to the North Wales coast. I went with a friend and we were girls on a mission! We were seeking inspiration and ideas for a project that must remain secret! I will tell you soon but for now what happens at Abakhan remains at Abakhan 🙅

We found bargain remnants of lovely fabric for our project. It was an amazing bargain.

image

The the lime green dotty fabric is Tshirt fabric that I am going to use to make some Tshirt yarn. ( or try to! ).

If I succeed in making the yarn I have a home project in mind. I can’t tell you about this either as Hubs doesn’t know yet and I will have to negotiate the idea! Great fun isn’t it?

I will have to rush as I am out to dinner tonight. I am going to Knutsford in Cheshire and it has been a long time since I visited this lovely town. Bye!

Sun, Sea and Sand

Sun, Sea and Sand

Sadly I have lost my camera. It wasn’t too expensive or indeed techy so it was time to replace. The problem is I knew how to use it, download, crop etc. I have spent an age trying to download images from my phone with only a small degree of success. Also I have been internet less for the last few days which has been odd.
The weather has been positively tropical with roasting sun and wonderful sun sets. We have been staying at Sennen Cove, Lands End a stunningly beautiful site largely due to the location. We have walked the Coastal path and best of all sunbathed on the beach. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! Sand between the toes. The Atlantic waters are very cold but I braved a brief dip. Photos not available as heavily censored!
On top of everything else I have just spilt tea over my iPad so here’s hopping all is well.
