Hello December

Standard

Can you believe that December is with us again? Today being 1st December we can allow Christmas into our lives! Today we can play Christmas music, shop for gifts and even eat mince pies. Christmas should be banned until 1st December and then celebrated in all its glory. We can now buy a tree, decorate our homes and write Christmas cards.

I have a busy few days ahead with a trip to Liverpool with girl friends. We have ambitious plans with afternoon tea, cabaret, cocktails, spa massage and Prosecco. Oh and we might fit in a little Christmas shopping. All this and a hotel sleepover as well!

A Hair Raising Experience

Standard

Well  I reckon that most hair styles are a result of hair dressing products. I am no exception. I wash, condition, mousse, spray and gel most days! This routine is often done whilst on automatic pilot. Take yesterday as an example. I completed a reasonable effort to make my hair look good, reached for the hair spray as usual and STOP! I’d absently picked up spray glue! Not much different than hair spray you might think. Wrong! You try washing it out!

img_0816

I have used spray starch by mistake in the past. There seems to be a pattern forming here and my hair isn’t that fantastic. I really must separate the household products from the beautification products!

I didn’t tell you how amazing my birthday cake was did I? Darling daughter made a Piñata cake which was fantastic

It appeared as an ordinary, if rather tall, white cake embellished with Happy Birthday candles. When I ceremonially cut into it a beautiful rainbow filled with multi coloured sweets appeared, with the sweets cascading out! It was absolutely lovely. Thank you family for a different treat.

PS

The base was surrounded by multi coloured buttons, probably the contents of Darling Daughters button box, which Step Granddaughter begged to take home. A budding crafter here!

Not a Thing to Wear

Standard

I suspected that there might be a problem when I threw out all  most of my clothes! Now I’ve nothing to wear! Surprise! I reckon it’s a reaction to loosing Mum, well I have to blame someone. I needed to cheer myself up so I’ve booked a party for my birthday in a few weeks. I just wanted a happy party! Now I haven’t anything to wear so I’ve temporarily cheered myself up with a new hair cut, manicure and new lipstick. Oh and I’ve booked a holiday next week with a friend. I’ve still nothing to wear so next week may or indeed will, include a large dose of retail therapy. Sounds like good therapy to me!

I forgot to mention that I have also joined a gym, I love swimming. I’ve bought a new Fit bit and I’m going to the Arctic Circle in January. How mad is that? Life is an adventure.

Love Is?

Standard

This is one of my favourite photographs. It is of my Mum, my Sister and myself. It was the first time that any of us had been to a High St nail bar. We were on holiday with Mum in Blackpool. For me the photograph epitomises the love between a Mother and her Daughters. Mum is poorly in hospital at the moment and Christmas is looking a bit grim. When I next visit I am going to do a manicure for Mum. A girl can always do with some pampering even an 89 year old girl!image

Castlerigg Stone Circle

Standard

Having struggled all week I have finally managed to upload a couple of pictures. I’m not sure of the quality so bear with!

Hubs, Benji dog and I spent the week in Keswick,Cumbria and what a fantastic week. We walked to Castlerigg stone Circle. This stone circle is thought to be 4000 years old. Imagine that. It feels as if some ancient people were in this place before time began. The circle is 100 feet in diameter and is composed of 38 megalithic stones. The scenery is excellent and perhaps this is why such a monument was built in such a place. It certainly makes you feel “in touch” with yourself.

.image

Talking about “in touch with yourself” why is it that whenever I have a picture taken of myself my hair is always a mess? Maybe it’s always a picture at the end of a hike, and usually windy? Also my eyes are all screwed up. Probably because of the sun and lack of sun glasses. And I always look tired- cause I’ve just walked up hills and over fields! Ahh well! Happy days!

Lush Lemony Flutter Cuticle Butter

Standard

Hi it’s Lush Granny again!
Today I must tell you about a great Lush product that I have used a lot. (As you can see from the picture) The product is Lemony Flutter Cuticle Butter.
image

Perfect for softening our hardest bits: knees, elbows, heels, brittle nails and cuticles finally get the attention they deserve. Lemony Flutter revives a traditional method of cream-making that even the Romans would recognise. A little goes a long way, and within just a few applications, those neglected areas will be rejuvenated and smelling delicious, just like lemon curd.

The above blurb is from the Lush Cometics web site but describes it perfectly. I like the bit about “The Romans” It is quite a thick cream but soon soaks in to the cuticles etc. I bought mine from Lush Chester and use it all the time.
Give it a go for gorgeousness!

Lush Granny Strikes Again

Standard

imageIn my capacity as a Lush Granny it is with great sadness that I have to report that my Charity pot of Gorgeous Facial Moisuriser is empty. I have scraped round and round the tin but there is no more! These charity pots from Lush are a great way to sample products or to take away with you. This Gorgeous Facial Moisturiser is a great product. It smells delicious, moisturises wonderfully and “does what it says on the tin!” Makes you Gorgeous!

On a quest for stronger, shinier, softer hair? Try this argan oil-packed, Rose Jam-scented bar. Argan oil is combined with glycerine to give your hair touchable softness and lustrous shine. From this solid foundation restorative rose absolute and oil balances the scalp making this bar particularly perfect for setting fair hair ablaze with brightness and strength.

The above quote is from the Lush website. Take a look at their new Oxford St store its fabulous.

I have had a few of these shampoo bars for when I am travelling. They act as a hair and body shampoo and last for ages. They can be a little difficult to get out of the tin but a piece of ribbon slipped under the bar makes it possible to flip it out. Failing that store them in the lid rather than the bottom of the tin! This works!

I had a FANTASTIC weekend! Did you?

I went to the Lake District,Cumbria with four girl friends. We’ve been weekending twice a year for eighteen years as a group. We’ve seen marriages, lovers, losses, divorce, grand children, tears, laughter, chocolate and much wine. I love them all and love our girly weekends.

This time we stayed in Keswick where we shopped in the rain.(always a shopping opportunity!) We walked along the shores of Derwentwater in sunshine and hail! We explored Grasmere discovering William Shakespeare’s grave -you know the guy! The poet of “wondering lonely as a cloud”

For oft, when on my couch I lie

In vacant or in pensive mood,

They flash upon that inward eye

Which is the bliss of solitude;

And then my heart with pleasure fills,

And dances with the daffodils.

I took Lush bath bombs for my friends and I to have  super relaxing baths after hiking through the woods.

I enjoyed a yellow bath using a bomb called “Honey Bee”. Lush describe it as “sweet, soothing and cleansing” and it certainly was that. Yummmmmm. Such a treat.

Granny Lush

Dearly beloved readers,

Lush Shampoo Bars are FANTASTIC! Because I am an intrepid traveller in my Campervan (AKA Damnvan1) I find these shampoo bars absolutely wonderful. They are sold as a shampoo product but also serve as a body shampoo. One product, multi use. I recommend that you buy the tin as well to prevent the bar getting soggy. I have been away for many weeks, shower and hair every day and the bar has lasted the whole time. Great value for money and perfect product.

These are my current two favourite bars.

Montalabano

This citrusy shampoo bar that promises serious shine. Green olives improve the tensile strength of hair whilst cleansing rosemary absolute, Sicilian lemon oil and freshly squeezed lemon juice make hair gleam from root to tip

Jason and the Argan Oil

On a quest for stronger, shinier, softer hair? Try this argan oil-packed, Rose Jam-scented bar. Argan oil is combined with glycerine to give your hair touchable softness and lustrous shine. From this solid foundation restorative rose absolute and oil balances the scalp making this bar particularly perfect for setting fair hair ablaze with brightness and strength.

Lush Stash

Standard

image

I have been sorting out my stash. Thinking about it, I have multiple stashes, all of which I love and are no calories! I have a fabric stash, a yarn stash, a magazine stash and my lovely, gorgeous Lush stash! Today it was the turn of my Lush stash. I took off the wrappers, smelt, felt and nearly devoured my collection of Lush soaps, bath bombs and massage bars. I now have them perfuming my bathroom until I can no longer resist and actually use them.

I do have a few favourites. I adore the current Golden egg but have (unwillingly ’cause I wanted it) sent it to my Gorgeous Granddaughter.

image

I saw this Golden Egg demonstrated in the Chester Lush shop and it is glittery beyond belief! Granddaughter you will SPARKLE! I photographed it on one of my many China dishes which I pick upmassage, in Charity shops for pence. This one is Wedgewood and cost £1.

image

This blue and white Vintage China tray is holding a French Kiss and Shades of Earl Grey Massage Bar. Very romantic and gorgeously lovely. The Shades of Earl Grey contains lemon and Bergamot oil. The massage bars are held between your warm hands to soften and then massaged into the skin.Mmmmmmm. The French Kiss is a Bubble Bar with luxurious lavender and Rosemary with extra virgin coconut oil. Fab!

The Vintage China tray is my current favourite soap tray and it is fairly unusual to find a square tray like this. I suspect that they were originally bought to hold sweets or similar. It is a truly vintage piece of China and always lives in my bathroom.

Happy days! What better stash could a girl want? I’m off to Italy at the weekend so not sure if I will mange to talk to you whilst I’m away. If I see an Italian Lush shop I will let you know. Hopefully there will be many photo opportunities. See you soon!
