Oh I Do Like to be Beside the Seaside!

Standard

We have just returned from a week at my son’s holiday cottage in Llanbedrog, Wales. We went with family and of course Benji dog.

Gwelfor Holiday Cottage is owned by my eldest son who has worked really hard creating a home from home to let out for short and longer breaks.

The front elevation is having a face lift this week end to brighten it up. Whilst the rear boasts a good size garden with lovely views. Ideal for children and a BBQ!

The house has been furnished in a modern mid century style and boasts one of the best beaches in Wales within a 5 minute walk. Popular Abersoch is a short drive in the other direction with more stunning beaches and trendy shops.

suspect hope that I will have many more visits to this lovely location.

Cross Stitch Sampler

Standard

image image

Hello Dear Friends! Having blogged about counted cross stitch last week I remembered my first ever cross stitch attempt. This sampler was purchased as a kit, where the pattern was printed onto the fabric. Actually aod way to learn cross stitch.

The sampler was worked in 1985 as you can see. In those days I worked as a Radiographer in a busy A and E department. ( Accident and Emergency, ER -but no George Clooney). Now when I say busy we had quite a lot of down time as I worked mainly evenings. During these quiet moments I used to stitch away. Cross stitch was perfect as I could drop it at anytime. I am certain that in more recent times crafting at work would not be possible! But this was in another era. Can anyone else work at crafts at work these days?

This particular sampler has a very worthy saying which, incidentally I didn’t choose!

“Virtue is the Chiefest Beauty of the  mind

The Noblest Ornament of Humankind

Happy days and Happy Ways! (Perhaps I could embroider that onto a sampler)

You do meet nice people at craft fairs! At a recent Christmas Craft Fair I met a lady who has just renovated a property, converting it to a venue for craft workshops. These workshops are about to get up and running and she has asked me to run a workshop making my up cycled bunting. This is pictured above and I use worn out or damaged embroidered lace doilies, tray cloths and table cloths. So if anyone has spare vintage embroidery or lace you know where it will find a good home! The bunting I had made was not for sale but just used to dress up my candle stall but maybe next time!

The workshops are to be held in a near by village called Caerwys, check out http://www.coachhousecaerwys.co.uk This is a beautiful location and an original “coach house” fabulous.

Whilst cruising through Pinterest I spotted the recycled tote bag as pictured above. Maybe just maybe, this could be the inspiration for another workshop. Perhaps I could use recycled beads?  I could incorporate quilting, embroidery, buttons. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! The list is endless!

Vintage textiles, perfumed.

I enjoy buying these perfumed drawer sachets as a treat. Now I know that they are expensive but I store them with my crafts creations, for example my knitting bag. When a project is complete it usually smells divine. Don’t tell anyone but this is an accidental sneak preview of someone’s surprise Christmas present. I will show you the whole picture when the gift is given!

Today a parcel from ebay arrived. Six lush pieces of vintage textiles. I really do have loads of vintage embroidery and lace but I can’t bear to part with most of it! I will need to part with some as I am planning to lead a craft class of up cycled textiles early in 2015. With this in mind I have purchased more vintage table cloths and lace and doilies for not a lot of money. Maybe they are too nice to part with!

I will tell you more about the craft/up cycling classes when I know what I’m doing! I am thinking along the lines of up cycled bunting and maybe recycled cushion. The venue is nearly sorted so then it will be all go to organise the event.
