Let The Quilting Begin

When I went to India I met a lady by the name of Kim Porter who has a business selling “worn and washed fabrics”I purchased one of her kits with a view to making a quilt.

I had saved the quilt kit as a project for my recovery. Recovery therapy I suppose.Well recovery time is here and I have no excuse not to get quilting! The plan is to machine stitch the blocks together and then to hand quilt. I will buy 100% natural wadding as the blocks are pure cotton or linen. I will use a vintage textile as backing. The backing is yet to be decided. I will report back my progress so watch this space

Progress

Yesterday I escaped the cottage confines and went shopping. Not real shopping just picking up click and collect stuff in Marks and Spencer. I need to get better quickly if only to stop me doing so much shopping on line!

Hubs drove and I used both crutches. Around the home I’m not using crutches now but trying to walk tall and proud! ( I need to straighten up) I can’t wait to walk out in our local countryside properly. One step at a time. So for now I’m just putting one foot in front of the other.

Crafts as Therapy

I mentioned that I am a great believer in the power of positivity but I also believe in “helping yourself”.

One method of self help is to use hobbies as a form of therapy and relaxation. As I mentioned on an earlier blog I have struggled to pick up any of my planned hobby projects.One craft that I have been bumbling along with is one ( of many) knitting projects. I am knitting squares from re-used yarn, into a blanket ( or Afghan). The yarn was originally knitted into a sweater but turned out as big as a marquee so was unravelled and is now in a new life as a throw.

I will assemble them using a contrast yarn and crochet. I also plan to back the finished throw with micro fleece for cozy snuggles. Goodness knows when it will be finished but I will let you know!

Positivity

I do know that a good dose of positivity takes you a long way. I’m not saying it’s a “cure” but it helps you to manage what is going on in your life and max out the life you live. I have recently spent a huge amount of positivity pre and post op. Bilateral hip replacements. The look on everyone’s face when I say that I’ve had both hips replaced. The retort is always “Both?” “At the same time?” Well, ummm yes!

On the craft front I had lots of projects ready to complete or even start and what I Have I done? Very little! A small amount of knitting and a shed load of planning. I’m great at planning, dreaming and thinking. Maybe just maybe I’m turning the corner as today I went to Craft Group. I WALKED there and back! A bit of a mini marathon on the hip front but a move forward nerve the less.

I really enjoy my craft group who are supportive and inspiring so I came away ready to craft and complete Well we will see!
