Cruise Crafts at Petra

Standard

What an awesome, exciting, historic place! I still can’t believe that I was lucky enough to visit this wonder of the World!

The cruise ship docked in Aqaba Jordan and I joined a day tour to the interesting Historic remains of Petra. The coach journey was in itself very interesting, made better by our brilliant guide. On the two hour journey we saw something of Jordan. A peaceful, hot, desert country. We drove along the main highway of Jordan which is a very busy and ancient trade route. Interestingly this original route was built with the profits from the transportation of Myrrh and Frankincense.

We saw Bedouin people living their centuries old life style in Bedouin tents and herding goats. We drove past Wadi Rum, an amazing rock formation in the desert where “Laurence ย of Arabia” was filmed. On the way back we saw a wonderful desert sunset.

Petra was a magic place completed around 100 BC. It is worthy of the title “seventh New wonder of the World”

The Treasury is the main archeological structure of the park and is displayed in all of its 3000 year old glory. If you look closely to either side of the facia you will see square holes carved into the stone. These holes were carved in order to support the wooden scaffolding to enable the original carving of the facia?

A great day out and a wonderful opportunity.

I haven’t yet mentioned the beautiful crafts that we worked on board the cruise ship so watch this space!

Cruise Crafts Crete

Standard

I do like alliteration don’t you? As you may guess today I’m in Crete. Apparently the fifth largest Greek island and a great producer of olive oil. I did a tour around rural Crete. Field after field of olive groves and beautiful vineyards.

We visited a winery and sampled the local produce. We had a snack lunch in a Taverna which was lovely with the exception of the herbal tea. I’m a Morning Breakfast sort of a girl.

The weather was hot but with a gentle breeze. Perfect touring weather. I am told that September is the best month to visit. I haven’t , however had chance to see any beaches. So there’s nothing more to be said I will have to return. If it’s only to get some decent pictures.

Cruise Crafts Malta

Standard

Hello from Valletta Malta. The best thing about cruising is that it feels like a “day out” in different countries. You get more or less a day to explore before moving on to the next destination. This presents the idea if you want to return for a longer holiday. I like ๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡น Malta.

Of course I am teaching crafts on board and really having a ball with a great group of ladies . I will tell you more about the crafts in another blog.

In the meantime I’m currently enjoying my second coffee stop in this lovely city. I’m in the local Marks and Spencer’s as I can guarantee free WIFI nice toilets and good coffee!

Malta is quite rightly proud of its history. It is immediately obvious how it’s walls protected the people, troops and refugees during WW2. It is also a moment to reflect on those who lost their lives for us.

Now it feels a happy, sunny ๐Ÿ˜Ž free place to live

Cruise Crafts in

Standard

Hello from Ibiza. My crafty cruise has paused in Ibiza to explore and enjoy. I hitched a lift on the shuttle bus into Ibiza Town and wandered around the old walled town. A lovely place with many shops but a serious lack of crafty emporiums. There was an excess of white lacy garments that fit all!

I walked up to the old town and wandered along the walls. The views were lovely even through the fine rain.

This is a very sad view of a beach by Ibiza town. It appears that garbage, even a kitchen sink have been thrown over the cliff! Come on Ibiza clean your beach

Beautiful stone walls

Colours of Spain

Don’t forget that this is a working holiday so I will tell you about the craft classes on another day .

Cruise Crafts Cadiz

Standard

My crafty cruise takes me to Cadiz today. The actual crafts are usually taught when we are at sea so today there is time to explore. The Cathedral is lovely and the city square provides plenty of coffee opportunities

It’s a special day today for Fred Olsen Cruises as all four of their ships are docked together to celebrate 170 years of the company.

For the businesses of Cadiz “their boat has truly come in”In fact three boats each spilling around 1000 people into the shops and restaurants

Well the sun has shone, the entertainment has entertained and I’m about to get ready for the sail away party. All three cruise ships will sail out of Cadiz in convoy. It’s then Ibiza here we come.

Cruise Crafts Porto

Standard

Cruise going really well and everyone enjoying craft classes. Phew! Two classes done and about 6 to go. It’s always flexible because we are influenced by the weather ( can’t get into port) demand ( people just NEED) a knitting fix! Instead of knitting just substitute printing sewing crochet……..

It is also essential to sample the local cuisine, especially the Portuguese tarts. Diet ? What diet?

Where are you crafting?

Standard

Hi Guys where are you crafting today? I’m knitting on a coach on my way to Dover.

Yes I’m off on Another crafty cruise. I am so lucky to be seeing the World from a cruise ship. Sure I have to work but it’s such a pleasure when you love what you do . The greatest pleasure of all is “coaching ” someone and sharing the crafty knowledge.

This cruise is Island hopping from Dover UK through the Suez Canal and home from Jordan. The great promise at the end is a trip to Petra. I can’t wait but do have some work to do before then.

This explains why I’ve not been blogging recently as in the five weeks since my last cruise I’ve been prepping the crafts for this cruise! It’s so nice to sit on the transfer coach and knit my own project!!
